About Breed Lifespan

Breed Lifespan collects dog breed lifespan numbers from published, openly licensed studies and puts the sentence they came from right next to each figure.

Search for a breed's lifespan and you will usually get one number, with no way to tell which study it came from, how many dogs it covers, or whether another study found something different. We keep that detail visible, and when two studies disagree, we show both instead of picking one.

Where the numbers come from

• Every figure is quoted from a peer-reviewed, openly licensed study, and the exact sentence it's drawn from runs right beneath it, linked back to the paper and dated to when we read it. The method page lists all four papers and explains how each one built its number.
• The breed-by-breed chart comes from a study's own supplementary data table, re-read and independently checked for our build; it is not something we typed by hand from a summary.

We are an independent site, not connected to or endorsed by the authors of any study, any breed registry, or any veterinary organization. There are no ads, accounts or photos.

What we cover, and what we do not

Right now this covers dogs, by breed. We are not a general pet-care site: we do not write about disease, treatment, feeding or breeding, and nothing here is veterinary advice. If a study reports something a breed's own numbers cannot show — life stage, individual health, what to expect for a particular dog — that is a question for a veterinarian.

Think a figure is wrong?

Write to hello@breedlifespan.com, naming the page and quoting what the paper actually says now. A correction or retraction of the underlying study gets the quote updated or the figure pulled here too — the date only moves when the number does. See the privacy page for what happens to that email.
